► Texture and mineralogy matches well with deposits in Aram Chaos, Juventae Chasma. ► ILD: kieserite + dehydr. copiapite, polyhydrated sulfate, spectrally neutral caprock. ► Groundwater alteration of sulfate-free ILD or ILD and kieserite formed coevally. ► Here, polyhydrated sulfate most probable a weathering product of kieserite. ► Nontronite spatially close to sulfates, but in mantling and chaotic terrain.
