• Two different methods were used to assemble CdMoO4:Eu3+.
• The morphologies were controllable.
• The photo-catalytic activity of CdMoO4:Eu3+ was investigated.
Two different methods (hydrothermal and supersonic microwave co-assistance (SMC)) were used to assemble a novel phosphor CdMoO4:Eu3+. X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), scanning electronic microscope (SEM), and photoluminescent spectra (PL) were applied to characterize the target samples. SEM images revealed that olive-like and spherical shape of the micro-structures were controllable in terms of the two approaches. The fluorescence spectra demonstrate energy transfer from MoO42- to Eu3+ and the red emission was greatly enhanced under the irradiations of SMC. The photo-catalytic activity of CdMoO4:Eu3+ was investigated by the photo-degradation of rhodamine B.
