To investigate the pharmacokinetic profile of ellagic acid in presence of Aloe vera gel powder in rabbits using validated HPLC method
چکیده انگلیسی

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the pharmacokinetic parameters of ellagic acid alone and in combination with Aloe vera gelpowder in rabbits. A bilayer floating tablet of ellagic acid and Aloe vera gel powder was prepared to treat Helicobacter pylori induced gastric ulcers. We assessed the effect of Aloe vera on the pharmacokinetic parameters of ellagic acid. For this purpose comparison was done between standard ellagic acid formulation and bilayer floating tablet using a validated HPLC method. The method developed was found to be linear in the range of 0.026–1.3 μg/ml with r2 = 0.997.The limits of detection and quantification were 0.017 μg/ml and 0.026 μg/ml respectively. The results of pharmacokinetic analysis showed that the mean plasma concentration maximum of ellagic acid in standard was 0.261 ± 0.019 μg/ml and test was 0.270 ± 0.019 μg/ml in first thirty minutes. Half life for standard and test was found to be 0.144 ± 0.05 h and 1.361 ± 0.105 h respectively. Area under curve for standard and test was 0.502 ± 0.02 μg/ml h and 0.550 ± 0.02 μg/ml h respectively. After analyzing data using two ways ANOVA at 95% confidence interval by Bonferroni’s multiple comparison method no statistical difference was obtained as indicated by the p value (p > 0.0001). It was concluded that the addition of Aloe vera gel powder had no effect on the absorption of ellagic acid.
