Three-dimensional CNTs wrapped Li3V2(PO4)3 microspheres cathode with high-rate capability and cycling stability for Li-ion batteries

Herein, we design a simple strategy for constructing three-dimensional carbon nanotubes (CNTs) wrapped Li3V2(PO4)3 (Li3V2(PO4)3/CNTs) microspheres via a spray-drying assisted solid-state reaction method. In this composite, the CNTs are homogeneously embedded in the nanocrystalline Li3V2(PO4)3 to form the three-dimensional conductive networks. Electrodes fabricated from these microspheres exhibit effective electron and ion transport when used as cathode materials for Li-ion batteries. The Li3V2(PO4)3/CNTs material shows high reversible capacity (189.3 mAh g− 1 at 0.1 °C), good rate capability (165.7 mAh g− 1 at 5 °C) and long-term cycling performance (89.5% of capacity retention up to 300 cycles at 10 °C). The present results demonstrate promising applications of the Li3V2(PO4)3/CNTs microspheres as high performance cathode materials for Li-ion batteries.
