External ophthalmomyiasis: A case report from urban area

Ophthalmomyiasis results from the deposition of the larval form of certain flies on the conjunctiva. A case of external ophthalmomyiasis in a young male from urban area in morocco, without history of proximity to domestic animals or visit to any rural area was reported. The disease is confined to the conjunctiva. The eye was locally anesthetized. Two larvae of Oestrus ovis were removed with fine forceps. The symptoms resolve immediately after the removal of larvae. This work creates awareness among the ophthalmologists regarding larval conjunctivitis as one of the causes of conjunctivitis even in urban areas.
