A study of the effect of the jet-like flow on the near wake behind a circular cylinder close to a plane wall

► We studied the flow around a circular cylinder near a plane wall. ► A simple geometry has been used to isolate the jet-like flow between the wall and the cylinder. ► Three flow regimes have been found; far regime, intermediate regime and small gap regime. ► At small gap flow regime there are still only large scale vortices shed from the upper shear layer. ► The jet-like flow interacted with the upper shear layer vortices during their formation cycle.
