Closure model with asperity interaction in normal contact for rock joint

• A theoretical model is proposed to predict the closure deformation of rock joint.
• Influence of asperity interaction is considered.
• Interaction is regarded as a displacement on the surface caused by a mean pressure.
• The model considers the contact behavior between “waviness” and “unevenness”.
