ضریب عملکرد Coefficient Of Performance به اختصار COP بیانگر راندمان دستگاه های سرمایشی و گرمایشی سیکل تبرید مانند چیلر، روف تاپ پکیج، پمپ حرارتی VRF، GHP، اسپلیت و. . ‌. است. ضریب عملکرد COP با نسبت توان حرارتی (برودتی) گرفته شده از هوای فضای مورد نظر یا آب و هر سیال دیگری به توان الکتریکی ورودی به دست می آید. ضریب عملکرد همانند راندمان ماشین ها بوده ولی مقدار آن بیش از ۱۰۰ درصد است. اگر مقدار آن برای دستگاهی کمتر از ۱۰۰ درصد باشد، آن دستگاه به درستی کار نخواهد کرد. از آنجا که صورت و مخرج آن هردو بر حسب یک واحد (معمولا ژول) بیان می‌شوند، واحد این ضریب یک می باشد. ضریب عملکرد چیلرهای جذبی و چیلرهای تراکمی: 1- ضریب عملکرد چیلرهای جذبی تک اثره بین ۰٫۶ الی ۰٫۸ است. 2- ضریب عملکرد چیلرهای جذبی دو اثره ۱ است. 3- ضریب عملکرد چیلرهای تراکمی بین ۲ تا ۶٫۱ است. نسبت بازدهی انرژی (EER)برای یک دستگاه خنک کننده ی خاص نسبت سرمایش )بر حسب (Btu/hrبه توان الکتریکی ورودی (بر حسب وات) در شرایط معلوم رطوبت و دمای درون و بیرون است. نسبت بازده ی فصلی انرژی بعدی مشابه نسبت بازده ی انرژی دارد، اما در عوض محاسبه شدن در یک نقطه ی کاری مشخص نماینده ی عملکرد کلی سالانه برای مکانی معلوم را می دهد. نسبت بازده ی انرژی به ضریب عملکرد که معمولاً در ترمودینامیک استفاده می شود، مربوط است، تفاوت پایه ای بی بعد بودن COPبرای یک دستگاه خنک کننده است که موجب می شود در تمام سیستم های واحدها بی تغییر بماند. تفاوت دیگر این است که COP یک معیار لحظه ای است، در حالی که EER حاصل تقسیم انرژی بر انرژی است و برای بازهای معلوم محاسبه می شود. این بازه برای EER چند ساعت با شرایط یکسان است.
