PTH (1-34), but not strontium ranelate counteract loss of trabecular thickness and bone strength in disuse osteopenic rats

► Disuse osteoporosis was induced by BTX in a rat model. ► The effect of PTH and strontium ranelate (SrR) during disuse was studied. ► Bone architecture, bone strength, bone turn-over and serum markers were analyzed. ► PTH, but not SrR counteracted disuse-induced loss in bone architecture and strength. ► No additional effect was found by combining PTH with SrR.
