Abstract
A new syndrome of life-threatening tertiary hyperparathyroidism is described in patients with critical illness. This syndrome probably is being overlooked frequently in critical care units. Early diagnosis and prophylactic treatment with bisphosphonate may preclude the life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias.
