Abstract
Defective CeO2 nanorods with increased surface roughness and enriched oxygen vacancies (Vo) were prepared by plasma irradiation. Pt nanoparticles on defective CeO2 show improved particle dispersion, smaller particle size, and stronger interaction with ceria. The Vo in ceria would enhance the ceria conductivity and increase the electron density of Pt, which modulated the activity for methanol oxidation, and the altered physical interaction enhanced the durability of Pt catalysts.227
