Abstract
Difficulties with open surgical procedures are common. The severity and frequency of these occurences depends on several factors: anatomic, physiologic, kind of local patology and skills and experience of operator. The incidents of undesired outcomes during tracheostomy can not be exactly predicted because interactions of the above issues. This paper considers some of difficulties observed in our department from January 2000 to July 2007. Tracheotomy is usssually a safe procedure, but complication ranging could be high in the following conditions: morbid obesity, a short and thick neck, cervical stiffness, tumors and infiltrantions of the neck, thyroid gland tumors.
