Abstract
Alkylation of benzene with propene at a high space velocity over HBeta zeolites in the phases of gas, liquid, vapor-liquid coexistence and supercritical fluid was comparatively investigated, where the different phases were categorized by the critical properties of the reacting mixture. The results proved that the reaction behavior is sensitive to the phase transition of the reacting mixture and the supercritical media is efficient to improve the reactivity, to prolong the catalyst life, and thence to boost the production capability. However, the reaction conditions should be determined on the basis of the critical properties of the reacting mixture that vary with the extent of reaction.
