Abstract
In this work, a dynamic mathematical model for a HIPS process is presented and used for analyzing grade transitions that occur during normal operation due to different product properties demanded by commercial applications. Interesting nonlinear behavior on molecular weight and conversion was observed which can be attributed to complex kinetics and the gel effect present at high conversions. The displayed behavior is discussed on physical grounds.
