Abstract
► Here we have prepared amorphous copper oxide using a novel room temperature method. ► The electrochemical performance of this material was superior to the incumbent manganese dioxide electrode discharged under the same conditions. ► What is particularly exciting is that this superior performance was under very high rate discharge conditions. ► The electrochemical discharge mechanism of the copper oxide was also discussed. ► This work represents an important step towards developing the next generation of cathode material.
