Abstract
► We use backscattering imaging to detect chilling injury (CI) in bananas. ► The performance of the backscattering imaging was explained by means of chemical reference analyses. ► Backscattering area increased and decreased as the lights interact with chemical properties in bananas. ► The changes of the backscattering area give effect to backscattering profile. ► The changes of backscattering profile provide potential of prediction and classification of chill-injured fruits.
