► Non-destructive measurements are tested for assessing peach maturity. ► Optical and mechanical techniques were observed to be complementary. ► Optical measurements were best for assessing maturity at harvest. ► Non-destructive mechanical measurements detected handling incidences. ► Combination of both kinds of techniques is recommended for post-harvest assessment.
