► Online froth image processing is a potentially important approach to estimating the performance of flotation cells and can serve as basis for development of advanced process control systems. ► The relationship between froth features and grades and recoveries is not well-established in platinum flotation yet. ► This study shows strong relationships between various froth features and grades and recoveries, including textural features, bubble size metrics, as well as froth colour.
