Abstract
Processes at the terminal require specific infrastructure and equipment. The facilities and their placement at the terminal vary because of different purpose, location, size and turnover. For a scenario analysis, small, medium and large terminal layouts have been described. Small terminals almost always have economic advantages for an annual turnover of less than 50,000 m3 loose. The main costs occur during truck loading. Large terminals have high construction costs which can only be reduced by producing large quantities or high-quality chips. Depending on the terminal type, the annual turnover and other site and environmental conditions, the unit costs at the terminal vary between 1.6 and 5 â¬Â mâ3 for loose chipped material.
