Abstract
⺠This study explores variability for foster youths' duration in care beyond 18. ⺠Individual-level characteristics explain a small proportion of variation. ⺠Agency data indicate that variability is strongest at the county level. ⺠The findings suggest the importance of courts in determining the duration in care.
