Abstract
This paper presents several research avenues for developing retrieval modules for Chinese-language bibliographic records. Previous studies have shown the successes and limitations of retrieval based on Romanized Chinese data (pinyin). It appears that a non-negligible proportion of end-users are not well served with pinyin-based retrieval. In order to provide this population with more adapted retrieval means, it is essential to investigate how other methods could be developed and integrated in bibliographic databases within a North-American environment, where Chinese-language resources usually only represent a small proportion of the collections.
