► We examined midline toy exploration in 2 groups of infants: neonatal stroke and normal controls. ► Infants with neonatal stroke had poor midline behaviors in early infancy. ► We examined fine and gross motor scores on the BSID-II in 2 groups of infants: neonatal stroke and normal controls. ► Infants with neonatal stroke had poor motor performance in early infancy.
