Abstract
► We examined the beat perception deficit hypothesis as an explanation of dyslexia. ► Beat perception deficits were examined systematically across different groups. ► Beat perception skills were not related to phonological skills or reading. ► Dyslexics and chronological age controls did not differ in beat perception. ► Beat perception deficits are not necessary to explain dyslexia in transparent orthographies.
