Gender and geographic differences in the prevalence of intellectual disability in children: Analysis of data from the national disability registry of Taiwan

► We calculated the prevalence of intellectual disability in Taiwan. ► We obtained data on cases 3-17 years of age from the national disability registry. ► We calculated prevalence by age, gender, and geographic area and assessed changes. ► There was an increasing trend in the prevalence over the years in all age groups. ► The prevalence was higher in boys than girls, and higher in rural than urban areas.
