► Students with SEND are at risk of experiencing poor psychosocial outcomes. ► The Achievement for All programme provides a new, comprehensive approach to intervention. ► AfA had a significant impact on SEND students' relationships, bullying and behaviour problems. ► The impact of AfA was moderated by a range of school- and individual-level factors. ► AfA offers an effective means of intervention and has been taken to scale nationally in England.
