► ASD and SSD appear to share many similarities, but they are poorly understood. ► Associations between symptoms were often (but not always) dimension-specific. ► Correlations between SSD symptom severity and IQ were generally low. ► Findings support shared risk factors at both dimensional and syndromal levels.
