Abstract
⺠We compared the development of novel metaphor and metonymy comprehension. ⺠In TD children, comprehension of each type of expression increases with CA. ⺠Some types of novel metonyms are easier to comprehend compared to others. ⺠Only metonymy scores are predicted by semantic abilities in WS, in contrast to TD. ⺠In WS, comprehension of novel metonymy is delayed and novel metaphor is atypical.
