► The use of night orthoses does not relate to more sleep disturbance in children with CP. ► Parental competence is a psychological mechanism that explains why personality is important for experienced parental burden. ► Including competence in treatment programs designed to provide adequate postural care may considerably increase the efficacy of such programs.
