Parents' regulation and self-regulation and performance in children with intellectual disability in problem-solving using physical materials or computers

► We compare parental regulation towards disabled and typical children in eight problem-solving tasks. ► Some specific parental regulatory strategies differ between the two groups. ► There is a significant effect mental age and of the medium on parental regulation strategies. ► Inter-task variability of parental strategies is observed in each group. ► Most strategies are negatively linked with children's performance.
