Abstract
⺠We compared maternal language to children with ASD, Down syndrome and typical development. ⺠Mother and child speech were studied during naturalistic play. ⺠Maternal language to children with developmental disabilities differed from that directed to typically developing children. ⺠We found a positive association between maternal speech and child MLU in TD dyads only.
