Abstract
The key petroglyph sites of Kazakhstan and Western Central Asia (Tamgaly, Saimaly-Tash, and Zaraut-Sai) are described as current and potential UNESCO World Cultural Heritage sites and their significance to the international nomination project “Rock Art of Central Asia” is discussed. These sites are considered part of the cultural landscape and require future multidisciplinary study.
