Abstract
▶ A study in Australian rural areas reported 119 fatal and 613 non-fatal crashes. ▶ Human, road and vehicle factors in fatal and non-fatal crashes were compared. ▶ Seatbelt wearing, alcohol use and speed contributed most to severity. ▶ Road conditions and vehicle factors made little contribution to severity. ▶ Alcohol use affected severity over and above its association with other factors.
