Abstract
▶ We studied 204 fatally injured drivers and 10 540 drivers from random traffic. ▶ Blood samples were collected from cases and oral fluid samples from controls. ▶ 22 substances were analysed using equivalent cutoffs in blood and oral fluid. ▶ The risk for fatal injury in a road traffic accident was estimated using logistic regression. ▶ The odds for fatal accidents were high for use of multiple drugs or alcohol.
