Abstract
Ferrography was first introduced into China over 20 years ago. Since then, academic research on wear debris formation mechanisms, intelligent identification of wear particle and other aspects have been carried out. Successful application of ferrography to machine condition monitoring in industry has been achieved with attendant cost benefits. Academic research has accelerated the development of ferrography, in which British scientists have made a considerable contribution to it. The future of ferrography is encouraging.
