Abstract
► Activated carbon packed MFC presented the highest power density among the four MFCs. ► Activated carbon was more favorable for adhesion and growth of Geobacter. ► Maximum power density was correlated with the relative abundance of Geobacter. ► In semicoke, other microorganisms might contribute to electricity generation.
