Abstract
► Extracellular laccase in white rot fungi degrades tetrabromobisphenol A. ► Cellobiose dehydrogenase promotes tetrabromobisphenol A oxidation by laccase. ► Laccase gives mono- and tricyclic brominated compounds from tetrabromobisphenol A. ► Mammalian metabolites of tetrabromobisphenol A are obtained using laccase. ► Products of tetrabromobisphenol A oxidation exhibit a moderate estrogenic effect.
