Abstract
► Lab scale auger pyrolyzer using a steel shot heat carrier is described. ► Response surface methodology was used to optimize process parameters for bio-oil. ► We studied heat carrier temperature and flow rate, auger speed, gas flow rate. ► A novel interaction effect between heat carrier and auger speed was discovered. ► Liquid yields greater than 73 wt.% were achieved.
