Abstract
⺠Industrial strain of Saccharomyces cerevisiae engineered to ferment pretreated lignocellulosic material. ⺠Strains produce ethanol from pretreated biomass without the addition of exogenously produced enzymes. ⺠Highest performing engineered yeasts secreting cellulolytic enzymes selected based on cellulase activity assays. ⺠Ethanol fermentation from pretreated corn stover with 63% conversion in 96 h. ⺠First example of Simultaneous Saccharification and Fermentation (SSF) from biomass without exogenously produced enzymes.
