Abstract
⺠Lipids of effluent from a poultry slaughterhouse were hydrolyzed with 1% of enzymatic pool for 4 h. ⺠Higher concentration of long-chain fatty acids did not inhibit the anaerobic metabolism. ⺠A higher specific methane production was obtained in the experiment with effluent pre-treated for 4 h. ⺠Contrary to what is reported in the literature for synthetic effluents, effluents from production plants contain other components which could affect the toxicity of free fatty acids on the biomass.
