Abstract
A novel series of water insoluble polymeric fluorosurfactants were synthesized by partial esterification of copolymers of hydroxy ethyl methacrylate (HEMA), methyl methacrylate (MMA), 2-ethyl hexyl acrylate (EHA) and butyl acrylate (BA) with tetrafluoro propanoic acid (TFPA) using PTSA as a catalyst and were characterized by IR. The molecular weight of the products was determined by GPC. Flow and wetting properties of these polymeric fluorosurfactants were evaluated in epoxy resins (liquid epoxy and solid epoxy), alkyd paint and powder coatings. Results showed that these polymeric fluorosurfactants could be used as wetting agent, flow additive in alkyd paint, epoxy resins and powder coatings with advantage.
