Abstract
This paper discusses the security in the fieldbuses. The discussion takes into account, on one hand, the security services defined by the ISO Security Architecture, and on the other hand, the security mechanisms defined by some fieldbuses. From our analysis, it is shown that there are two critical points for attacking these networks: the bus and, in the case of centralized networks, the master node. This paper presents then the possible solutions to protect the fieldbuses and discusses their associated computing cost.
