Abstract
This paper outlines the implementation of a rotary piezomotor in a precision positioning device. The piezomotor drive needs specific electronic developments to fully exploit its high torque to mass ratio and power to mass ratio abilities. The quality of the motor drive strategy and the power supply reliability are decisive to manage an exhaustive research and development. Action of the three available parameters of analog control is probed, measured and analysed. Moreover, the study of the rotary piezomotor behaviour is joined to the exploration of various measurements methods. The results lead to a digital servo control of the motor developed in G language. A microcomputer-based system replaces the analog I/O stages for low-level signals. The positioning servo loop is enhanced by action on the velocity.
