Abstract
The problem of a bounded planar crack in a homogeneous, isotropic, linearly elastic space is considered. It is assumed that uniform normal loads, which are equal in magnitude and opposite in direction, are applied to the crack surfaces. It is shown that a circle is the only form of crack for which the stress intensity factor is constant along its contour.
