Abstract
In this paper, the stability and parametric resonances of supported pipes conveying pulsating fluid are studied via numerical methods. According to the stability criterion derived, the effect of physical parameters of the system on the regions of three parametric resonances is discussed. The amplitude-frequency response curves of the parametric resonances and their frequency characteristics are investigated through numerical simulations. The results obtained show that several motions can take place in the region of combination resonance, including quasiperiodic and combined periodic motions. There exist some regions of overlap between the regions of the different resonances, and hence different types of steady state response may occur at the same value of the exciting frequency Ï in these regions of overlap. This phenomenon may lead to sudden changes in motion from one steady state response to another.
