Abstract
The recent trend for stringent mechanical properties of hot rolled coil prompts the steel producers to study in detail the coiling temperature. With a view to have a better idea of the coiling temperature at the run-out table, an on-line mathematical model has been developed and implemented in a hot strip mill (HSM). Tests with the various grades of steel covering a wide range of thickness show the level of accuracy with which the model predicts the coiling temperature. A good agreement has been found over most of the length of the coil. The model is used to calculate the cooling rates at different segments of the strip that may be used to obtain microstructure and mechanical properties.
