Abstract

- A high compressive hydrostatic stress field is successfully generated in the vicinity of cutting point.
- The number of plastically deformed atoms is decreased and particularly, the burr (or pile-up) formation is remarkably suppressed.
- The elimination of cutting chip becomes remarkably smooth.
- The yield stress becomes higher than that by normal cutting under a high compressive stress.
- The plastic flow and shear strength are restricted and increased around the shear plane located just under the rectangular hole of jig, respectively.
