Abstract
► Finite element modeling of cyclic deformation on a solder joint structure was carried out. ► The progressive ductile damage model was able to directly model fatigue failure. ► Solder/substrate interface plays a more important role in affecting cyclic failure compared to monotonic loading. ► High-strain-rate cyclic loading leads to a much reduced fatigue life.
