Abstract
A method for determining optical properties of liquid hydrocarbon fuel (kerosene) was developed, based on inversing experimentally measured transmittance spectrum of optical cell filled liquid sample. The method was validated by experimentally determining optical constants of water. Then measurements of transmittance spectrogram of optical cell with different thicknesses of kerosene in the infrared wavelength 2-15 μm at normal incidence were investigated by a Bruke V70 FTIR spectrometer. The optical properties of kerosene were achieved by the experimental method. The results indicate that the optical constants of water determined by the method have good agreements with previously data sets. And the optical properties of kerosene were established in the wavelength region 2-3.24 μm, 3.79-6.58 μm, 7.9-12.28 μm, and 14.1-15 μm, whose relative error is 11-30%.
