Abstract
Cerium doped barium aluminium borate difluoride-BaAlBO3F2 glasses have been prepared by melt-quenching method. Through subsequent heat treatments glasses have then been transformed into glass ceramics containing BaAlBO3F2 nanocrystals. X-ray diffraction and Energy Dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX) were used to confirm the crystalline phase and the presence Ce3+ ions present in the host glass ceramics. The structural and optical parameters of prepared glass ceramics were analyzed by using FTIR, UVvis absorption and photoluminescence studies. FTIR spectrum confirms the conversion of BO3 to BO4 units and also the presence of CeOAl linkages in glass ceramics. Photoluminescence observed in cerium doped BaAlBO3F2 glass ceramics is due to 5d → 4f transition of Ce3+ions.
