⺠We explain the link between shadow market activity and credit market development. ⺠We focus on the cost-benefit underlying tax evasion with the domain of formality. ⺠We show that marginal gain from disclosure increases with financial development. ⺠Result suggests that financial development lowers the incentive to evade taxes.
